Tips for your Senior Session

SENIOR SESSION INFORMATION

You want your senior portraits to reflect you, not the fashion trends of the year. When you look at your closet… your dresser… your floor… what clothes and accessories most define YOU? What do you grab first when you’re going someplace special? How do you style your hair? That’s a good place to start.

DO’s

  • Solid colors, long or ¾ sleeves.  Variety-t shirt and jeans, sweater and khakis, a formal dress, tie and dress pants, flip flops, boots, and your letter jacket. Hats, if you wear them, are a great way to change your look easily. Remember different colors too – you don’t want every portrait to be of you wearing blue.
  • Favorite items or hobby items (if they are easily portable)-musical instruments, pom-poms, athletic balls and uniform equipment, dance outfits, headsets and jam boxes, stuffed animals, pillows, hats/caps/visors, sun glasses, trophies/awards and other items which can personalize your images. If you want an image including your car, make sure it is clean and shining. Pets are allowed at the session only if you bring someone to watch the pet.
  • Glasses-We try and minimize glass glare as much as we can but you may consider borrowing empty frames from your optometrist to use for your session. Removing glass glare in post processing is available at an additional charge.
  • Scars and Tattoos-Let Pam know before the session if you want tattoos to show or be hidden. Scars can also be removed or softened – just ask.
  • Jewelry-Special jewelry (i.e., necklaces, rings, etc.) are nice in your images, don’t forget to bring them – especially your class ring. But DON’T overdo it, you want your images to show YOU – your lovely face, hair, skin, expression.

DON’TS

  • Big logos, plaid and stripes.
  • Change your hair (style or color) right before your session. You won’t look like YOU.
  • Sunburn-If you regularly tan, fine. If you don’t, now is not the time to try. Besides, tan lines are not a good portrait look! Take care to not get sunburned before your portrait session. Red, peeling skin is difficult to correct.
  • Blemishes-Acne is touched up during post-processing. Don’t let a breakout keep you from your session!

SENIOR SESSION INFORMATION – PAGE 2

Girls: Pay special attention to your lingerie. If you need a strapless bra for an outfit, bring one – just dropping the straps on a regular bra gives you unsightly bulges.

Makeup should be natural and just a little heavier than normal day wear. Watch for clumpy mascara! Avoid heavy dark eyeliner surrounding your eyes – your eyes will be tiny, dark, and virtually disappear. Not a good look!

Hands may show in some of your poses, so your nails should be neat. Colored nails should go with each of the clothing choices you bring (so don’t wear orange clothing with red nail polish) – neutral colors are best. Also, don’t forget your toenails, as some images may be taken barefoot.

If you tan take care to not get sunburned before your portrait session (red, peeling skin is difficult to correct). Strap marks and tans lines also don’t look well in your images.

Guys: Baggy clothes make you appear heavier than you are. Don’t forget a belt!

Shave right before your session because stubble is magnified in photos and you may look like your face is dirty.

Your socks and shoes DO matter as we’ll be doing some full-length poses.

As always, if you have any questions about your session, contact the studio via email or phone!
