What to Wear

What to Wear

Simple goes a long way. We like to keep the focus on the subject; therefore, simple clothing choices are best for creating timeless portraits. I suggest loose fitting solid colors, avoiding busy patterns or logos/words.

Hats can also make adorable portraits; as well as other accessories. If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style give a more coordinated look. You don’t need to be “matchy-matchy” just coordinate. Would Sally’s skirt “go” with Johnny’s shirt? If not then they most likely won’t look good together in a portrait. Bare feet are always fun. If shoes are preferred, please make sure they are clean and in good shape.

I suggest bringing a few outfits that you are considering and allowing me to help you make the final choice on what would best suit the look and feel you are going for in your child’s portraits.

Family Sessions

Clothing choices are just as important for family sessions, as other sessions. I highly suggest clothing for each family member that has the same tone, not necessarily the same color. Again they don’t need to be “matchy-matchy” but each individuals outfit pieces should coordinate with the other family members outfit pieces for a seamless coordinated look. If you will consider think of it as mix and match…you wouldn’t but could you put Sally’s skirt with Johnny’s shirt?? If not then it probably will not look good in your family portrait either. Please avoid stripes, plaids, busy patterns, and logos on your family’s clothing. These things can be a distraction from your family portrait as well as date your images. Bare feet are great for family sessions too!

In conclusion, when making the decision to have professional portraits done your clothing choices are important. Good clothing choices will make all the difference in your final family portrait. Please contact me for further questions on clothing.
